Our activities chairman, Nick, has arranged a day trip on Sunday October 19th to the butterfly conservatory, Magic Wings in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. Time should also allow for a side trip to Shelburne Falls, MA. Basic info and links are below.
We will have permission to bring tripods into the conservatory before the public opening at 9 AM. From 7 AM to 9 AM, the conservatory will be ours to explore and photograph. Here is your chance to apply the tips that John Paton will no doubt impart to us in his talk on Wednesday October 1st. Car pooling will be arranged but be aware that to get there by 7 AM we will be leaving CT about 5:30 AM. You are welcome to drive up later but after 9 AM no tripods will be permitted in the conservatory. Nick will need an approximate head count for this trip. We must have a minimum of 4 people. You are welcome to bring a guest. Contact Nick at [email protected] http://www.magicwings.com The Lepidoptera source in Western Massachusetts, featuring an 8,000-square foot indoor conservatory home to nearly 4,000 exotic and domestic butterflies in a tropical environment, Magic Wings focuses on butterfly-related education, recreation, entertainment and gardening needs. ADMISSION PRICES Adults: $14.00 Seniors (age 62 and over): $12.00 There is on-site food. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelburne_Falls,_Massachusetts Shelburne Falls is a historic village in the towns of Shelburne and Buckland in Franklin County, Massachusetts, United States. The village is a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of 1,731 at the 2010 census.[2] It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Notable features include the Bridge of Flowers, a former trolley bridge over the Deerfield River that is now maintained by the Shelburne Falls Women's Club as a floral display from April through October; and the glacial potholes of the Deerfield River. Bill and Camille Cosby are well known residents of the area, though they keep a relatively low profile. The downtown is alive and well, including an independently owned pharmacy with asoda fountain, one coffee shop, a trolley museum, several restaurants, two pizza parlors, three bookstores, a newsstand, a grocery store, a natural foods store, many artists' galleries, and the second oldest bowling alleyin the country, the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley candlepin. John has asked us to contribute butterfly & insect images for a discussion session after his talk on Wed.See his message below and his address for sending him files. Use the usual file size for projection. I think file naming can be anything you find easiest.
