"I love the color blue.  I am fortunate to live on south cove in Old Saybrook which can provide beautiful blue sunrises in certain weather conditions.  I have photographed this view hundreds and hundreds of times now, trying to capture the most vivid blue hues that I can.  This is my latest.  I wish is was more clear.  I was using a tripod with a remote.  I tried cropping the left but I found I liked the lights and bit of sun coming thru on that side so I sized this to be a more panoramic view."

I, too, love the blues, and their juxtaposition with the warm tones. And I love all the horizontal lines. I'm glad you mentioned the rising sun on the left - i'd missed it, which makes me wonder if you maybe shot another frame 5 seconds later? Maybe you could brighten the sky there just a tad? It might make for a better balance? Your choice of making it a panorama was a good one, I think. I'm wondering about a further crop on the bottom, eliminating the grasses. I'll be interested to see what others think about that.

Thanks Sally, I agree that a bit more light would give a better balance. I did wait and shot this again - unfortunately the cloud cover got darker rather than let more light in. I did shoot one before this but I didn't like the clarity. Now that I have been taking online Lightroom classes I will try and lighten the left a bit. I will also try the further crop.

I think I agree with Sally's comment about cropping from the bottom to remove the majority of the phragmites except for along the right border. I also love the blue tone - very moody.

Moody, indeed. Like you, I've gone back time and again to photograph a scene or structure that I believe has real potential, only to find something lacking with the most recent attempt. The deep blues in this image, along with the slice of rising sun to the left, surely speak to me of the unfolding of another day. I don't believe the phragmities 'add to the picture' due to the dark hue of the blue that you strove to capture.

Thanks for comments - universal agreement on cropping!

I love the blue tones in this image, and the pool of reflected light at the right. It is a very appealing and serene image. The phragmites don't bother me personally, and cropping proportionally would mean you'd have to remove the rising sun or the buildings on the right edge. I am unable to comment on the exposure of this image given the small size we are viewing. The hour after sunset is called the blue hour, so I would recommend shooting then.

I have tried the after sunset - lately it seems I'm getting a lot of pink and lavender during this time - I wonder if this changes seasonally?

Beautifully conveys the peacefulness of a new dawn. The rich blues and golds are very eye-catching and as we know, complementary. I agree with Sally about the repetition of horizontal lines. I am leaning to the suggested crop of the bottom--no problem with a more panoramic aspect than it is now. Always best to achieve your vision in camera but on other captures of the same scene you can punch up the blues in your processing.

I appreciate your connection to blue. It is the color associated with the heavens, tranquility, and calmness. I feel the colors here are a blend between blue and indigo so for me, spiritual connection and intuition enter. Healing waters..... At first, I overlooked the phragmities, thought them inconsequential and in removing would decrease the amount of blue waters thus lessening your intention. But once I visually cropped them out including the buildings on the right I feel your image deepened and intensified. These are waters of serene introspection. A lovely treasure and such a gift to receive upon waking ~
