POTW before and after

It is a slightly different perspective, chosen primarily out of "guess-timate" as 1. I didn't have a copy of the original on hand as a guide 2. precise incentive wasn't there as I'd no knowledge we would be showing "re-dos". I simply considered other's comments as I returned to this site. The primary thought was to include the additional real estate in front of the gravestone as this was the most common critique spoken. In editing I did add to the highlights, opened the shadows a bit  as well as lightened the exposure - a smidge ( I do prefer to nudge toward "the darkside").

For me, pros and cons to each. So, with curiosity, I welcome your thoughts.
PS Maryann and Dave, now knowing some story behind the stones atop I took several other close up photos with the intent of "telling a story" . Thank you both for the inspiration!

Well this has been an interesting exercise. I am glad we tried this and it's a shame more members did not participate. We can leave that discussion for later. I think everyone did a good job with their 'after' edits! I hope we all gained some incite into how to look at our work. I try to store all the ideas, not just those comments on my work, in a little compartment in my brain for future reference. We have in these examples what should be in the frame and what should be excluded, ways to look at balance in the composition. I think in general those are the issues we found to need more consideration by the makers. Also I believe we learned that some images tell a story and some just evoke an emotion and sometimes it is both. Thanks to all who did participate!

I too wish there had been a higher participatory rate as, I believe, there is much to be gleaned from such an exercise. Perhaps it has opened a door for another creative purpose not yet imagined.

My gratitude to Peter for initiating and orchestrating POTW as well as all who participated in the sharing of images and comments.

First, I feel very negligent for not fully participating and not making good use of the training - Thanks Peter for starting this effort
Some thoughts regarding the before and afters:
1. I like Janet's second photo - it took away the distracting background and now the focus is on the feeding bird - and the photo looks more crisp - nice!
2.Regina's ducks - I like the first one better than the second - the second one looks a bit shrouded in the mist but I prefer the clarity of the ducks in the first one. They seem to pop more too.
3. Jennine's cemetery photo - I like the top one best, by brining out the highlights, I like the shine on the gravestones across the way - it also brings out the texture of the stones more.
4. Mary Anne's boat - I Like the top one best, I Like photo's that show perspective of the boat farther aaway, and of those two I like the boat i focus better.
5. Dave's bridge - I like the bottom one better, the color is better, makes the scene look richer and a bit lighter.
6. Mark's water fall - I like the t op one better, it's less softer than the bottom - I like the better clarity.
